Manage configuration profile interfaces (BETA)
Configuration profile network interfaces are managed in the Linode's configuration profile.
You can configure network interfaces for the Public Internet, a VPC, or a VLAN. There are a total of 3 available network interfaces, which correspond to the devices assigned within the Linux system: eth0, eth1, and eth2. For instructions on assigning interfaces, see the Modify interfaces section of this guide.
For more details on assigning a Linode to a VPC or VLAN, review the appropriate documentation:
Configuration profile interfaces support private IPv4 addresses.
View configuration profile interfaces
The configuration profile interfaces for a Linode can be viewed and managed from Cloud Manager.
- Log in to Cloud Manager, click the Linodes link in the sidebar, and select a Linode from the list.
- Navigate to the Configurations tab to view the configuration profiles on a Linode. You can find the configuration profile interfaces in the Network Interfaces column.

Modify interfaces
Follow the instructions below to add, edit, or delete interfaces.
- Log in to Cloud Manager, click the Linodes link in the sidebar, and select a Linode from the list.
- Power off the Linode.
- Navigate to the Configurations tab to view the configuration profiles.
➤ To modify interfaces from the existing configuration profile, click on the ellipsis (...) menu of a configuration profile and select Edit. This opens the Edit Configuration form.
➤ To add interfaces to a new configuration profile, click the Add Configuration button. This opens the Add Configuration form. For more information on creating a configuration profile, see Manage configuration profiles on a Linode. - Scroll down to the Networking section.
- In the Primary Interface (Default Route) field, select a network interface from the dropdown menu. The default route is the route your Linode uses when traffic doesn’t have a specific route to a destination.
- In eth0, eth1, and eth2 fields, adjust any settings as needed. For best performance, refer to the instructions below.
There are a total of 3 available network interfaces, which correspond to the devices assigned within the Linux system: eth0, eth1, and eth2.
- If no VLANs or VPCs are in use, the recommended setting is Public Internet for
eth0and None for all other interfaces. - When assigning an Linode to a VPC, it's recommended to use
eth0for the VPC interface. - If public internet is required along with a VPC, configure the VPC interface as a 1:1 NAT with internet access (the Allow public IPv4 access (1:1 NAT) option under the VPC interface) instead of designating a separate network interface as Public Internet.
- If you want to delete an
eth1oreth2interface, select None from the dropdown.
- Click Save Changes.
- Within the Configurations tab, click on the ellipsis (...) menu of a configuration profile and select Boot.
- Power on the Linode for the changes to take effect.
Upgrade to Linode interfaces
See Upgrade Configuration profile interfaces to Linode interfaces (BETA) for more information.
Linode interfaces do not support private IPs. Linodes that require private IPs shouldn't be upgraded.
