You can use Cyberduck from your desktop to transfer files over FTP, SFTP, and a number of other protocols, including Amazon S3.

Set up Cyberduck

Review these sections to install and configure s3cmd.

Prerequisite

You need an Object Storage access key, to grant Cyberduck access to your Object Storage buckets and objects. See Manage access keys for instructions, if you don't already have one. Specifically, you'll need these values:

• The access key. After you create a key, a unique identifier is assigned to the key.
• The secret key. This is a unique secret that ​Akamai​ generates for the access key.

📘

The secret key is only displayed a single time, after you create the access key. So, if you don't know this value, you'll need to generate a new access key and be sure to store its secret key.

Install and configure Cyberduck

1. Go to Cyberduck's Download page.

2. Scroll down to the Download section and select the version for your operating system.

   

3. Open Cyberduck and then select Cyberduck > Preferences from the menu bar.

4. Select the Profiles tab to open the Connection Profiles page.

   

5. Search for "Linode" or scroll down to see the connection profiles designed for the Object Storage service.

   

6. Select the checkbox for each region you want to use with Object Storage.

   📘

   You need to have set up the access key you created to include each region you select here.

7. Close the Preferences window and restart Cyberduck to install the selected connection profiles.

Open a connection

1. Open Cyberduck and select Open Connection.

2. Ensure the Connection tab is selected.

3. At the top of the Open Connection dialog, click the dropdown menu and select one of the Linode Object Storage ( connection profiles you enabled in the previous process.

4. Set these values:

   • Access Key. This is your Object Storage access key.

   • Secret Key. This is the secret key that was generated for your Object Storage access key. If you don't know this value, you'll need to generate a new access key.

   

5. Click Connect to open the connection.

6. Repeat this process for any remaining connection profile regions you selected.

Usage examples

These sections cover some common tasks you can perform in in Cyberduck.

View your buckets and files

Once the connection is successful, a list appears of all the buckets that your access key has permissions to view, within the selected region. You can view the files stored in the buckets by clicking the chevron icon to the left of the bucket label or double clicking the bucket to open it.

To create additional buckets, use Cloud Manager, Linode CLI, s3cmd, or s4cmd. You can't create new buckets with Cyberduck.

Upload and manage files

To upload a file, drag it into the Cyberduck window where you want to store it. For instance, if you see multiple buckets or folders, drag the file to whichever one you wish. This process also works for multiple files and even entire directories. You can also click the Action button and select Upload from the menu.

To perform an action on a particular file, right-click it and select from these options:

• Info. Get additional details about the file, folder, or bucket, change permissions, view and update metadata, edit the domain, and set versioning.
• Download. Download a copy of the file.
• Edit. Useful for editing plain text files.
• Rename, Duplicate, and more.

If you upload an object that uses non-standard special characters or unusual ASCII/Unicode characters in its name, the upload may fail. This includes the characters: : " ' < > & + =.

Get a file's URL

In most cases, URLs are used to share and display files. While you can always manually determine the URL—see Access buckets and files through URLs—you can also get one quickly using Cyberduck.

1. Right click on the file, select Info, and select the General tab.

2. Locate the Web URL field. The URL for the file is displayed here.

   

3. Click on the URL to open it in a web browser or right click it and select Copy Link to copy the URL.
