Monitor cloud services
Akamai Cloud Pulse is an observability solution that provides real-time insights into the performance, availability, and reliability of workloads running across your cloud environment. It brings together metrics, alerts, and logs to help you understand system behavior, detect issues early, and maintain the health of your applications and infrastructure.
Logs are generally available to all customers. Metrics are currently inlimited availability and Alerts are currently in beta for select cloud services.
Why observability matters
As cloud environments grow, visibility into workload behavior and resource usage becomes increasingly important. Metrics, alerts, and logs provide critical insight during investigations, helping teams verify that services are operating as expected, identify unusual patterns, and detect and resolve issues before they impact users.
Metrics provide a high-level view of workload performance trends. They help you identify changes and understand the impact of deployments and configuration updates.
Alerts notify you when something needs attention. They add proactive awareness by surfacing critical events.
Logs provide additional context to help you understand what happened. Audit logs capture authentication events and configuration activities across your environment, providing a traceable record of what were performed by whom, and when. They support both security monitoring and operational awareness.
Together, these capabilities form the foundation of observability in your cloud environment. As Akamai Cloud Pulse continues to evolve, they will support expanded monitoring and analysis capabilities.
Key capabilities
This section outlines the key capabilities of Akamai Cloud Pulse, built around three core components: metrics, alerts, and logs.
Metrics (limited availability)
Metrics provide quantitative data about the performance of your services over time. Key capabilities include:
- Automatic metrics collection. Metrics are automatically collected and stored for supported Akamai Cloud services.
- Visualization and analysis. Dashboards display metrics over time, helping you identify changes and analyze performance trends.
- Export. Metrics can be exported for use with external observability tools.
- Programmatic access. You can retrieve metrics through the Linode API.
Alerts (beta)
Alerts notify you when important conditions occur that may require attention. Key capabilities include:
- System alerts. Predefined system alerts notify users of critical events and service-impacting conditions.
- Custom alerts. You can configure custom user alerts to send notifications when specific conditions are met.
- Notifications. Alerts send notifications through configured channels. Email is currently supported.
- Programmatic access. You can manage alerts through the Linode API.
Logs (limited availability)
Audit logs capture authentication and configuration activities across your environment. Key capabilities include:
- Log collection. Data is automatically collected for authentication, authorization and configuration events for supported services.
- Log delivery. You can configure a log stream to send data to the destination of your choice.
- Log analysis. Once delivered, you can analyze logs using external tools.
- Programmatic access. You can configure streams and destinations through the Linode API.
