Monitor cloud services

Akamai Cloud Pulse is an observability solution that provides real-time insights into the performance, availability, and reliability of workloads running across your cloud environment. It brings together metrics, alerts, and logs to help you understand system behavior, detect issues early, and maintain the health of your applications and infrastructure.

📘

Metrics and logs are available in limited availability, and alerts are available in beta for select cloud services. The feature set and supported services will expand in future releases.

Why observability matters

As cloud environments grow, visibility into how workloads behave and how your environment is being used becomes increasingly important. Metrics, alerts, and logs help you to verify that services are operating as expected, recognize unusual patterns, and respond effectively when issues arise. They enable you to detect issues earlier and provide useful context during investigations.

Metrics offer a high-level view of workload performance trends, helping you identify changes and understand the impact of deployments or configuration updates. Alerts add a layer of proactive awareness by notifying you when critical events occur or user-defined conditions are met. Audit logs capture authentication events and configuration activities across your environment, providing traceable information about who performed an action and when it occurred, which is useful for security monitoring and general operational awareness.

Together, these features form the building blocks of observability within your cloud environment. As Akamai Cloud Pulse continues to evolve, these foundational features will support additional monitoring and analysis capabilities.

Key capabilities

This section outlines the key capabilities of Akamai Cloud Pulse, which is built around three core components: metrics, alerts, and logs.

Metrics (limited availability)

Metrics provide quantitative data about the performance of your services over time. Key capabilities include:

  • Automatic metrics collection. Metrics are automatically collected and stored for supported Akamai Cloud services.
  • Visualization and analysis. Metrics are displayed on dashboards that help you to see changes over time and analyze performance trends.
  • Metrics export. Metrics can be exported for use with external observability tools.
  • Programmatic access. Metrics can be retrieved programmatically through the Linode API.

Alerts (beta)

Alerts notify you when important conditions occur that may require attention. Key capabilities include:

  • System alerts. Predefined system alerts notify users of critical events and service-impacting conditions.
  • Custom alert creation. Custom user alerts can be configured to send notifications when user-specified conditions are met.
  • Notifications. Notifications are sent via the specified notification channel when an alert fires. Email notifications are currently supported.
  • Programmatic access. Alerts can be managed programmatically through the Linode API.

Logs (limited availability)

Audit logs capture authentication and configuration activities across your environment. Key capabilities include:

  • Log collection. Log data is automatically collected for authentication, authorization and configuration events for supported services.
  • Log delivery. Log streams can be configured to deliver log data to the destination of your choice.
  • Audit log analysis. Once delivered, logs can be analyzed using external tools.
  • Programmatic access. Log streams can be configured programmatically through the Linode API.
