View an alert definition

An alert definition specifies the conditions under which an alert is evaluated and triggered. It describes what is being monitored, how it's evaluated, and when users should be notified. It includes the metric being monitored, the threshold criteria, evaluation logic, assigned entities, and notification settings.

Alert definitions can be accessed using Cloud Manager or the Linode API.

To view an alert definition in Cloud Manager:

  1. Log in to Cloud Manager, expand Monitor in the main menu, and select Alerts.

  2. Open the Definitions tab to see the list of configured alert definitions. This list includes both system and user alerts.

    The summary details for each alert include:

    • Name of the alert
    • Status: enabled, disabled, in progress, or failed
    • Akamai Cloud service the alert applies to
    • Creator the alert: "system" or a specific username
    • Time last modified

    A status of In Progress means the alert has been created but the system is still applying the configuration. A status of Failed means the alert configuration has encountered an error—contact Support for assistance.

  3. Use the search, filter, and sort tools to locate the alert definition you want to view.

  4. To open an alert definition, click the alert name or choose Show Details from the options menu.

  5. Review the full alert configuration details, including:

  • Criteria (metrics, thresholds, and evaluation logic)
  • Assigned entities (only the assigned entities you have permission to access)
  • Notification channels
