Add a hostname with a CPS-managed certificate
Configure a hostname with a CPS-managed certificate you obtain from the Certificate Authority (CA).
Some steps may slightly vary depending on the Property Manager release you're using, either General Availability (GA) or Limited Availability (LA). The procedures cover two variants of the custom hostnames setup.
Before you begin
You need to prepare your edge certificate before you can start this process.
General Availability
Perform these steps to set up a property hostname using a certificate you created with Akamai's Certificate Provisioning System (CPS) or one you set up with a third-party service.
Do you have access to Default DV certificates?
If you do, but you still need to use a CPS-managed certificate, the process is slightly different. See the Limited Availability instructions.
-
In the Property Manager Editor, in the Property Hostnames content panel, click +Hostnames>Add Hostname(s).
-
In the Add Hostname(s) field, enter the property hostnames you want to use, and click Next. The names don't need to contain
https://
, just the domain. Only alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9
) and hyphen (-
) characters are supported. This value can't begin or end with a hyphen. The subdomain should have a length of 4-63 characters.-
Have you already generated the certificate in Akamai Certificate Provisioning System (CPS)? You need to input the domain that matches what you've set up in that certificate as either the Common Name (CN) or a SAN (Subject Alternate Name).
-
Are you providing a third-party custom certificate? If so, you need to enter the exact domain associated with the certificate you've provided to your Akamai account team.
-
-
Select the certificate that you set up for your domain name. Make sure the certificate’s network (Standard TLS or Enhanced TLS) matches your Security Options settings in the Property Version Information section. For more information, see Compare the security levels.
-
If applicable, specify the desired Mapping Solution. If none of the following applies to you, go to the next step.
-
Are you using Adaptive Media Delivery or Download Delivery? You can apply a specific use case. See What is Use Case-based Edge Mapping?.
-
Do you have Edge IP Binding on your contract? You can enable it here. See What is Edge IP Binding?.
-
You can only select one Mapping Solution—you can enable Edge IP Binding, or select a use case, but not both.
-
Select the checkboxes next to property hostnames you want to configure edge hostnames for. You can apply your edge hostname settings to multiple property hostnames at the same time.
-
Create. With this option selected, you can define a fully custom edge hostname and select a different domain.
-
Select existing. Select this option if you want to associate your property hostname with an existing edge hostname.
For specific products, you can filter by Delivery Policy, so that the list only shows edge hostnames that have this feature enabled. Delivery policies keep edge traffic within a specific geographical region. For more details, see the Delivery Policy Manager documentation. -
Custom. Select this option to manually input a CNAME target to be used in the association. Contact your account representative for further details on the proper use of this field, and whether it applies to your environment configuration.
-
-
Select the appropriate IP version, based on what your application or site can support.
-
Once you complete selecting your hostname options, click Submit.
-
Review the information in the Success window and apply its instructions as required. Click Close.
You can view all details for a hostname in the Property Hostnames panel by expanding a particular row.
Limited Availability
Use this scenario if you have access to the Default DV certificates, but you need to use a certificate that you set up with Akamai's Certificate Provisioning System (CPS) or you have a third-party secure certificate.
-
In the Property Manager Editor, in the Property Hostnames content panel, click +Hostnames>Add Hostname(s).
-
In the Add Hostname(s) field, enter the property hostnames you want to use and click Next. The names don't need to contain
https://
, just the domain. Only alphanumeric (a-z, A-Z, 0-9
) and hyphen (-
) characters are supported. This value can't begin or end with a hyphen. The subdomain should have a length of 4-63 characters. -
If you've already generated a certificate outside of this process and want to use it, pick from these two options. If not, skip to the next step.
-
I have a certificate in CPS. Enter the domain that matches what you've set up in that certificate as either the Common Name (CN) or a SAN (Subject Alternate Name).
-
I have a third-party custom certificate Enter the exact domain associated with the certificate you've provided to your Akamai account team.
-
-
Switch off the Automatically request certificates toggle.
-
Select the CPS-managed certificate you previously created and associated with your domain name. Make sure the certificate’s network (Standard TLS or Enhanced TLS) matches your Security Options settings in the Property Version Information section. For more information, see Compare the security levels.
You can create CPS-managed certificates at this point, but you'll have to wait for the certificate to provision (3-6 hours, depending on the level of security). Click Refresh to update certificates to check if your new certificates are ready to use.

Certificate renewal
If you're using Standard TLS Domain Validated (DV) certificate, you can automate the certificate renewal by adding the Auto Domain Validation to your property's rule. Make sure you selected the appropriate renewal settings in the Certificate Provisioning System. The renewal process starts automatically 16 days before the certificate's 90 day lifecycle ends.
