Activate on production

Before you begin

Before activating on Production, it is strongly recommended that you first activate the configuration on the Staging network and thoroughly test it. See Activate on staging.

You activate on Production when you're ready to "go live". After you activate your configuration (but before formally "going live", as discussed below), you should confirm that everything is working right by testing your configuration in Production.

How to

  1. Ensure that you are logged into Akamai Control Center using a User ID and Password that have been configured for access to the product for which you have created the applicable Property Manager configuration.

  2. Use the top-right menu in the header to select the appropriate Control Center account (one with access to the applicable product).

  3. Access Property Manager configurations associated with the selected Control Center account. Go to ☰ > CDN > Properties (or just enter Properties in the search box).

    The Property Groups page opens.

  4. Filter the results of the table by inputting the Property Name set for the configuration (for example, its Property Hostname if you used this value) in the Filter by Property or Hostname field.

  5. Click the Property Name .

  6. At this stage, you have one of two choices in activating the Property manager configuration:

    • Activate the Staging Version - This entails accessing the version of the Property currently on the Staging network and activating it on Production. If this is your chosen method, perform the following:

      • In the Manage Versions and Activations content panel, locate the Version <#> of the property currently in Staging (the one created for Testing) and click it.

      • Continue to Step 7 .

    • Create a New Version of the Property - This entails "cloning" the Staging network configuration to create a new Version, and activating thatversion on Production (in order to maintain the version on the Staging network). To accomplish this, perform the following:

      1. In the Active Staging Version content panel, click the New Version button. This will clone the property as v<#+1> (for example, "www.mymedia.com v2").

      2. If desired, review/modify the settings in the Property Manager configuration.

      3. Click Save.

      4. Continue to Step 7 .

  7. Click the Activate tab.

  8. Click the Activate v<#> on Production button.

  9. Any warnings carried over from the configuration will be displayed as Validation Messages . You can click Cancel and edit the configuration to acknowledge them.

πŸ“˜

If you have created a new Version of the configuration, an additional warning message will be displayed here noting that this "new version:" has not been activated on Staging for testing. Click this message's checkbox to acknowledge and dismiss this warning.

  1. Optionally, add descriptive Notes and/or use the Notify via email field to define e-mail address(es) that will receive notifications in the event of a configuration file change (separate multiple entries with a comma--",")

  2. Click the Activate v<#> on Production button.

  • Use the status bar to continue monitoring the activation progress. You can also click View Details to review settings and information regarding the Property.

πŸ“˜

You have the option to cancel an activation at any point until the Property Manager configuration version fully propagates to our network. Canceling the activation reverts the property to its last active version(if applicable).
