Use Akamai MFA

What is Akamai MFA?

Akamai Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a multi-factor solution that provides you with an additional layer of protection on top of your corporate credentials. This helps you to keep your corporate applications and data more secure.

How it works

With Akamai MFA enabled as part of the authentication process, you have to confirm your identity by providing two or more pieces of evidence (factors) before you can log in to enterprise resources.

To start using Akamai MFA, you have to enroll your device in the service and pick your preferred second factor. Next, you start receiving authentication challenges on your trusted device. To obtain access to your enterprise apps, use the Akamai MFA mobile app on your trusted device to confirm that your login is legitimate.

Why is my company using Akamai MFA?

Akamai MFA supports FIDO authentication standards to provide your organization with strong, cryptographic protection against unauthorized access. This keeps your corporate account safe from different types of network security challenges such as phishing or social-engineering attacks.

Akamai MFA is easy to use. You can enroll your authentication device in the service within minutes. And with the single sign-on (SSO) sessions, you'll only be prompted for the MFA authentication once at your first login.

What secondary authentication methods can I choose?

We recommend using the innovative phone security key as your secondary authentication solution. This second factor leverages the U2F, FIDO2, and WebAuthn standards to provide you with an end-to-end cryptographically sealed authentication process preventing unauthorized third parties from accessing your corporate account. The Akamai MFA mobile app turns your existing smartphone into a highly secure authenticator and lets you conveniently authenticate with the frictionless user experience of push notifications.

Other available second factor methods include the smartphone push, push TOTP, clientless push, hardware token, phone call, third-party OTP device and SMS or email OTP.
Your organization may enable only some of these factors as authentication methods. To confirm which authentication options can be used to log in, contact your IT department.

Supported devices

The following mobile device OS versions support the Akamai MFA mobile app:

  • iOS 13 and above (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch)

  • Android 7 and above (smartphones and tablets)

Mobile devices that use other authentication methods such as SMS/email OTP as second factors, don’t have to run those minimum supported software versions.
