Use hardware token

Before you begin
Contact your administrator to activate your hardware token.

Hardware tokens are small, security devices that run on the TOTP (time-based one-time passcode) algorithm to generate 6-8 digit verification codes. Codes change constantly at a defined time interval (usually every 30 seconds), after which a new authentication code is generated.

If your organization requires you to authenticate using the hardware token, you have to contact your Help desk or IT department. Your admin will assign your hardware token to your Akamai MFA account.

After you receive your hardware token, you can start using it to respond to authentication requests. This means that when you attempt to access the protected application, you're going to be prompted to confirm your identity by providing the TOTP code generated by the hardware token.

Follow these steps to learn how to authenticate with the hardware token.

How to

  1. In the authentication prompt, select the hardware token one-time code by clicking Use a Passcode.

📘

With your hardware token assigned to your Akamai MFA account, the One-time Code is the only allowed authentication method that displays in the Authentication Required dialog.

  1. Go to your hardware token and check the generated TOTP code.

  2. In the authentication prompt, enter the code and click Submit Code.

  3. Akamai MFA displays a confirmation message and redirects you to the required enterprise app.
