Manage HTTP Forwarder

When setting up or managing HTTP Forwarder, you can complete these tasks:

  • Configure HTTP Forwarder as an explicit or transparent proxy. For steps on setting up HTTP Forwarder, see Configure HTTP Forwarder.
  • View traffic statistics of HTTP Forwarder. View traffic statistics of HTTP Forwarder in the Security Connector console. For instructions, see View traffic statistics.
  • Enable or disable direct-to-origin failover mode. You can define how HTTP Forwarder behaves if SIA Proxy is unreachable or in an unhealthy state. For instructions, see Enable or disable direct-to-origin failover mode.

View traffic statistics

You can view traffic statistics of HTTP Forwarder to see:

  • Number of requests received by HTTP Forwarder
  • Number of successful responses
  • Number of failed responses
  • Number of requests that were handled by an explicit proxy configuration
  • Number of requests that were handled by a transparent proxy configuration
  • Number of errors
  • Number of rate limit drops
  • Number of interface errors

These statistics are collected when the connector is started, and they reset when the Security Connector device restarts.

To view traffic statistics:

  1. In the Security Connector console menu, press 7 or use the arrow keys to select Manage HTTP Forwarder, and press Enter.
  2. Press 1 or use the arrow keys to select Check Traffic Stats, and then press Enter. The traffic stats appear.

Enable or disable direct-to-origin failover mode

The direct-to-origin failover mode setting lets you configure how HTTP Forwarder behaves when the SIA Proxy is unreachable or in an unhealthy state.

  • If this setting is enabled, traffic for the SIA Proxy is directed to the origin.

  • If this setting is disabled, users see an error message for their requests.

By default, this setting is enabled.

To enable or disable direct-to-origin failover mode:

  1. In the Security Connector console menu, press 7 or use the arrow keys to select Manage HTTP Forwarder, and press Enter.

  2. Press 4 or use the arrow keys to select Toggle Direct-to-Origin Failover, and press Enter.

  3. Press C to change the toggle mode.

  4. Type yes to toggle this setting. If the direct-to-origin failover mode is enabled, this action disables it. If the direct-to-origin failover mode is disabled, this action enables it.

After the change is applied, a success message appears. Click any button to return to the main menu.
