Test your policy on staging
After you have finished creating or editing policy and have saved it to staging, you can test it on the staging network using your actual images and videos.
Before you begin
To increase the likelihood of successful testing:
- Use the Image Policy Editor preview pane to preview any transformations included in your unsaved policy. You may be able to detect potential issues that will save you frustration later on.
Best practices
The following best practices will help you to get the most out of your testing sessions before pushing new or edited policies to production.

Make sure that the images and videos you are using for testing fall under the match criteria in your Image and Video Manager rule.

Test in a variety of browsers.

If using Automatic breakpoint selection, test on many different devices with different screen sizes and resolutions.

If a policy applies multiple transformations, consider building up and testing the policy a few transformations at a time.

If you will be using more than one policy, save and test your policies one at a time.

If you are using custom policies, start with the simplest use case.

Review the Image Manager Traffic Reports for insights into the effectiveness of your Image and Video Manager configuration.

After you have finished configuring a policy, click Save and Test on Staging.
A modal appears with more information about activating your policy.

Click Save to Staging to confirm that you want to activate the policy on the staging network.

Go to the staging network to test your new or modified policy.
After you have finished testing on staging, you can push your policy to production.
Videos that exceed maximum duration or size
Image and Video Manager will not attempt to optimize videos over 5 minutes in duration, 256 MB in size, or 3.7 M in pixel area (1920x1920). If a video policy is failing during testing, this may be why.
