Add an Image and Video Manager rule
Rules are added to properties using Property Manager. Rules include match criteria and behaviors. If a request fulfills the conditions in the match criteria, the behaviors in that rule are applied.
Before you can use Image and Video Manager to optimize your source files, you will need to add at least one Image and Video Manager rule to the property containing the domain for your images or videos.
-
Log in to Akamai Control Center, then go to ☰ > CDN > Property Manager.
-
Navigate to the property containing the domain for your images and/or videos.
-
Open the version of the property configuration you want to edit.
-
Under Property Configuration Settings, click Add Rule.
-
Search for Image and Video Manager in the list of available rules.
-
Select one of the following rules, and click Insert Rule.
Rule | Description |
---|---|
Image and Video Manager Video Manager (Images) | Choose this rule to use file extensions only as the match criteria for your images. |
Image and Video Manager (Videos) | Choose this rule to use file extensions only as the match criteria for your videos. |
Image and Video Manager (Advanced) (for advanced users only) | Choose this rule if you want to use OR matches in your rule, or want to match based on client-specific data such as device characteristics, IP address/version, request cookie, request header, or user agent. |
-
In the Criteria section, create an If statement by:
- Selecting File Extension from the first list
- Selecting is one of from the second list
- Selecting all of the required file extensions for your images or videos
Enable Image and Video Manager for files without file extensions
In order to enable Image and Video Manager for files without image or video file extensions, add "EMPTY_STRING" to the list of extensions. You will also need to use an additional path or variable match to ensure that Image and Video Manager applies only applied to image or video files and not all files without extensions.
Specify the OR match criteria for advanced rules
If you are creating an advanced rule, also specify the OR match criteria.
-
Make sure that your Image and Video Manager rule is the last rule that modifies origin settings. Rules that apply Origin Server behavior should not be applied after the Image and Video Manager rule (exception: Cloudlets origins configured with the Cloudlets Origin Group rule can be applied after).
-
Add a behavior to your rule:
- If you created an Image and Video Manager (Images) rule, add the Image and Video Manager (Images) behavior
- If you created an Image and Video Manager (Videos) rule, add the Image and Video Manager(Videos) behavior
