Edit an origin
You can edit an origin from the Origins tab.
-
Go to the Origins tab from your workspace or environment to see a list of your added origins.
-
In the list, click the ellipses menu of the origin you want to edit.
-
Select Edit.
-
Edit your origin settings:
-
Edit the name for your origin.
-
Select the origin type.
-
Your origin. A physical, cloud, or third-party server that you own and maintain. It stores your original content, which Akamai edge servers fetch to serve to end users.
-
Akamai Object Storage. You can use Akamai Object Storage as the origin server, and Cloud Access Manager (CAM) for authentication. In this case, you can Create an access key using the CAM interface or the API.
-
-
Edit the origin server hostname URL.
Akamai strongly advises against using your origin server’s IP address, as any address changes or reassignments might make your origin unreachable and result in a denial of service.
-
Specify the base path to map edge requests to specific directory structures on your backend origin server. This allows you to prefix URLs sent to your origin, defining exactly where content resides on your server. Ensure the path both starts and ends with a slash, such as
/images/or/assets/. The base path changes the cache key and maps the request path, for example, it can map/picture.jpgtoorigin.com/images/picture.jpg. -
Select the authentication method:
- None. This is the default and applies to you if your origin doesn't have any external authentication requirements.
- Amazon Web Services. Select this if you're authenticating with this third-party cloud provider as your origin server. Edge servers use the signature version 4 signing process to authenticate your requests to this third-party cloud provider. See V4 signing process in AWS. You also need to select the access key used to authenticate requests to your AWS service.
- Interoperability Google Cloud Storage. Select this if you're authenticating with Google Cloud Storage (GCS) as your origin server. Edge servers use the signature version 4 signing process to authenticate your requests to this third-party cloud provider. See V4 signing process in Google Cloud Storage. You also need to select the access key used to authenticate requests to your GCS service.
- Akamai Object Storage. Select this to use Akamai Object Storage (AOS) as the authentication method to contact your origin server. You also need to select the access key created in Cloud Access Manager that you want to use to sign your requests to Akamai Object Storage.
-
Select whether you want to remove the
Viaheader from requests sent to your origin server in Akamai, preventing them from revealing intermediary proxy information to your origin. -
Select whether you want to remove the
Ageheader sent by your origin server in Akamai.Ageheaders can cause Akamai to erroneously reduce TTL values. This ensures consistent caching.
