Individual service hostnames

A service hostname defines the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) used to access your application, site, or service. This is the public-facing web address end users enter into their browsers, excluding http(s)://.

New service hostnames typically include a subdomain, such as www for a primary site or shop for a storefront, to establish their relationship to your FQDN.

Service hostnames fulfill two essential roles in content delivery:

  • Address: they help the network locate the correct edge servers to fill an end user's request.
  • HTTP HOST Header: they identify exactly which site the request is for, allowing edge servers to host multiple different sites simultaneously.

In Delivery Manager, you group one or more service hostnames using service hostname sets to manage shared settings and routes. When a new service hostname gets added to Delivery Manager, you add it to a new or existing service hostname set.
