Service hostnames
Service hostnames define the public-facing domain names and network entry points that route incoming end-user traffic through Akamai to your application or service.
In Delivery Manager, you manage service hostnames at the workspace level as independent objects, decoupled from your rule configurations and environments. This architectural separation ensures that adding a domain, renewing a TLS certificate, or modifying routes doesn't impact your environment versions.
For better scalability, service hostnames have a hierarchical structure:
- Service hostname sets group one or more hostnames that share common characteristics, such as security levels or edge hostnames.
- Individual service hostnames are distinct fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) you add to a set, which inherit base properties but allow overrides.
A service hostname set is mapped to an environment through routes. Both the service hostname set and the target environment need to be activated on the same network (staging or production) to service end-user traffic.
