Configure the client
When you install Akamai Zero Trust Client for the first time or reset your client to factory default settings, you need to configure your client by authenticating with your service provider. You can configure ZTC with the configuration wizard by providing your organization’s IdP, client activation code or your email address.

If you are migrating from the ETP Client, your previous ETP configuration is retained and applied automatically by ZTC.
Use the configuration wizard to configure ZTC with your IdP
This configuration path lets you activate both Access and Threat Protection, if available.
How to
- Left-click the ZTC icon on the Windows desktop toolbar or the macOS menu bar.
Akamai Zero Trust Client opens. - Click Enroll Client.
The configuration wizard opens. - In the configuration wizard, enter your organization's identity provider (IdP) hostname.
- Click Authenticate.
Identity provider's login portal page opens. - Log in to the IdP portal with your SSO credentials. For example,
https://yourIdP.com
. - Click Configure.
After configuration finishes, an authentication message with the current date and timestamp appears. - Click OK.
The ZTC tray bar status icon changes from Unauthenticated to Authenticated state. The client displays Access status as Authenticated and Threat Protection status as Protected. This indicates that the client is connected to Enterprise Center, and all of the configuration information is sent from Enterprise Center to ZTC on the user's computer.
Use the configuration wizard to configure ZTC with your client activation code
This configuration path lets you activate Threat Protection only. If you have both EAA and ETP licenses available in your contract, it is recommended that you activate ZTC with your organization’s IdP hostname instead.
How to
- Left-click the ZTC icon on the Windows desktop toolbar or the macOS menu bar.
Akamai Zero Trust Client opens. - Click Enroll Client.
The configuration wizard opens. - In the configuration wizard, enter the client activation code you received from your IT administrator.
The activation code is case sensitive. You need to enter the code as shown in the email or in the form that it appeared when it was generated by administrators.
- Click Activate.
The ZTC tray bar status icon changes from Not Protected to Protected state. The client displays Threat Protection status as Protected. This indicates that the client is connected to Enterprise Center, and all of the configuration information is sent from Enterprise Center to ZTC on the user's computer.

- Click Send Email Invitation.
- Check your inbox for an invite email with a one-time authentication code.
- Back in the configuration wizard window, click Enter activation code.
- Enter the one-time activation code you received.
The activation code is case sensitive. You need to enter the code as shown in the email or in the form that it appeared when it was generated by administrators.
- Click Activate.
The ZTC tray bar status icon changes from Not Protected to Protected state. The client displays Threat Protection status as Protected.
