DataStream 2 is designed to scale and support data delivery for all requests on the Akamai platform, going beyond the limitations of DataStream 1. Check this section to learn about the key differences between both products, including the available destinations, data set fields you can log, and other enhancements.

DataStream 2 is also included with content delivery and comes with no additional charge. It is still under active development, which means there are features that have not yet been implemented in DataStream 2.
Destinations
While DataStream 1 allows for multiple destinations for one stream and supports streams with no destination, DataStream 2 requires one destination per stream. Here are the connectors you can use as destinations to send logs in DataStream 1 and DataStream 2:

Products
Some products supported by DataStream 1 may not be supported in DataStream 2. Check Features and use cases for the list of products that support log streaming after migration. Additionally, DataStream 2 requires that the stream monitors properties that belong to the same product. In case you want to monitor different products, running the Prepare migration payload operation will split existing streams in the response payload depending on the number of different products monitored in DataStream 1.
Data set fields and log formats
DataStream 2 allows you to log data for various data sets, including cache, geolocation, message exchange, and request header data, as well as custom data fields. You can stream data to the destinations of your choice in structured (space-delimited) or JSON log files.
In DataStream 1, you can also configure the sample data rate in the application while configuring other stream details. When migrating streams to DataStream 2, you can optionally set it in the DataStream behavior for each property you want to monitor.
