Welcome to Object Delivery

Object Delivery accelerates the delivery of smaller content by caching it on Akamai edge servers that are near your end users. It's built on a network of over 175,000 servers, in thousands of networks, all controlled by network intelligence systems that route requests, balance load, and ensure uptime.

Where it applies

Object Delivery is designed to deliver cacheable objects that are under 100 MB in size. For delivery of websites, dynamic applications, or for the delivery of objects larger than 100 MB, you can use our Ion, Download Delivery, or Adaptive Media Delivery solutions. Talk to your account team for more information on these products.

Before you begin

Set up Object Delivery

Follow these phases to get set up with a new Object Delivery property.

  1. Create a new Object Delivery property. Quickly create a new Object Delivery property in Property Manager.

  2. Define Property Hostnames. Associate the domain for your streaming media with an Akamai domain, so requests for it resolve to the Akamai edge network where your media is cached

  3. Define property configuration settings. Set up best practice delivery features to streamline and protect your content.

  4. Finalize your Object Delivery property. Do a few final things in and out of your Object Delivery property to get ready to test it.

Optional features and tutorials

You can include several optional features and use case-specific workflows in your Object Delivery property. See the Optional features section for detailed tutorials.
