Upgrades

You can configure which Protector software version your deployment uses through Akamai Control Center > App & API Protector Hybrid > Connection Configurations page. In AWS Marketplace deployments, the available Protector version is always the latest supported release. Akamai recommends always upgrading Protector to its latest release to ensure access to new features, improvements, security patches, and ongoing support.

Here are the steps you need to follow to install the new version of the Protector software:

1. Install the new Protector version on your infrastructure

App & API Protector Hybrid will notify you about new software versions in the Connection Configurations page. In the notification you can find a link to the specifics on the latest updates and release details.

To upgrade Protector to the latest software version, simply follow the instructions specific for your selected deployment type and execute scripts to download the new Protector release.

Protector software updates or license renewals do not require you to generate and register a new token.

2. Upgrade the Security Configuration to a new Protector software

Upgrading your Protector software unlocks new features in the associated Security Configurations. All you need to do is create a new version of your Security Configuration and activate it to a new Protector version.

When App & API Protector Hybrid auto-detects that the instances on your infrastructure are running a higher version of Protector than the one you have in your Security Configuration, it notifies you about it on the Connection Configurations page. All Connection Configurations in which you can update your security settings have an (i) icon in the Security Configuration column notifying you about the possible update.

To upgrade your Security Configuration to a new Protector version:

1. Expand the Connection Configuration for which you want to update your security settings.
2. In General settings > Security Configuration, click Upgrade.
3. In the Create new version modal, confirm that you want to update your Security Configuration to a new Protector version you’ve installed. In this way, the new version of your Security Configuration will have features offered by the new software release.
4. Modify the new version of your Security Configuration to take advantage of the latest features and click Activate.
