How do I use the new dashboards?
The new dashboards will be deployed as the standard dashboards for all new accounts using CDN logs.
Why is TrafficPeak switching to these new dashboards?
In an effort to standardize the customer experience and our ability to support customer deployments, we are certifying a set of official TrafficPeak dashboards that have been optimized to handle customer use cases observed in the field.
By providing these dashboards as reference dashboards for all accounts, we are also introducing a way of deploying updates to this set of dashboards without overwriting any custom changes made in a customer’s Grafana account.
The dashboards also include a new TrafficPeak Grafana Connector (replacing the previous ClickHouse Connector) that allows us to develop more performant dashboards for TrafficPeak customers. These changes will make performance improvements and maintenance much easier to manage.
How will these dashboards get rolled out?
For all new customers, the dashboards will be deployed when the new accounts are set up.
For existing customers, there are breaking changes due to dependencies on new summary tables that need to be created, and on the new TrafficPeak Grafana Connector. Because of this, the process for updating an existing customer is to open a ticket with the TrafficPeak support team requesting to update an existing account by sending an email to akamai-ps@hydrolix.io.
Will you be updating these dashboards?
Yes. By introducing the new dashboards into a new reference folder in the customer’s Grafana deployment, we will be updating the reference folder with future changes to the CDN set of dashboards and to extend the official set of dashboards to include SIEM, DNS, and other dashboards as optimized, recommended dashboards get added.
How does this change the workflow for configuring a dashboard?
The introduction of the new approved reference dashboard folder means that there are some workflow changes. The expectation is that dashboards will need to be copied/cloned before being customized. This is the only way to ensure dashboard changes are not subsequently overwritten with updates pushed from the TrafficPeak team.
A specific dashboard is missing from this set of dashboards, how do I request support for it?
If there is a specific dashboard you depend on that you are not seeing, please send a support ticket to the TrafficPeak team at akamai-ps@hydrolix.io and we will investigate how to make that functionality available to you and your customers.
Will you be adding more products into this official reference set of dashboards?
Yes, we will be adding more officially recommended dashboards as we complete the process of optimizing them and after adding ingest support for the Akamai product where applicable.
What happens for existing customers?
For existing customers, there are breaking changes due to dependencies on new summary tables that need to be created, and on the new TrafficPeak Grafana Connector. Because of this, the process for updating an existing customer is to open a ticket with the TrafficPeak support team at akamai-ps@hydrolix.io requesting to update an existing account.
How does this impact the current Demo Grafana dashboards?
The new official reference dashboards will be placed into the existing Dashboard Demo Grafana Repository and existing dashboards will be re-organized.
Can I still customize the dashboards?
Yes. The workflow to customize a dashboard for a customer is to copy/clone a dashboard from the official reference set and move it into the main folder, then rename as required. See Customize dashboards for more information. Note that TrafficPeak is introducing automated dashboard updates in the near future and dashboards in the Reference folder will be automatically updated, overwriting any custom changes made there.
Can I still request custom dashboard changes from the TrafficPeak team?
Yes. To enlist the TrafficPeak team to assist with customization of a dashboard for a customer, raise a support ticket in the usual way. Note that significant changes may require additional Professional Services hours for the customer.
When are the new dashboards available?
The new dashboards are available now for deployment for all new customers. For existing customers, please raise a ticket with the TrafficPeak team at akamai-ps@hydrolix.io.
For customers deployed in TrafficPeak - Shared, are there any restrictions on the use of Summary tables?
Shared TrafficPeak accounts have a limit of two summary tables unless otherwise approved by the TrafficPeak team. To request more summary tables, contact the TrafficPeak support team at akamai-support@hydrolix.io.
