Many ways to get the job done
Every website delivery scenario is unique, so Akamai offers a wide range of tools and delivery methods. To help speed up the process, we've picked a specific, easy-to-follow tutorial you can use to get started. Don't worry though. When there's an advanced or alternative way to do something, we call it out and point you to the instructions.
What you can expect when finished
Here's what you'll achieve when you're done:
-
Your website will be accessible on the largest, globally distributed content delivery network (CDN). This brings your site physically closer to your customers, dramatically speeding up its delivery time.
-
You'll have a secure connection. The connection between your customers and your site content on the Akamai edge network will be protected by HTTPS using a standard transport layer security (TLS) connection.
-
You'll have origin services that are easy to use. You need to store all of your website files somewhere they can be accessed by requesting clients. This is what we call an origin server. Here, we'll use Akamai's NetStorage service for this. No need to fuss with separate software, setup, and maintenance. NetStorage is integrated into the Akamai edge network so it's secure. It's also globally distributed. So, access is quicker and you won't have to worry about overload on your own web server.
-
Your site will be delivered faster and more securely. Through the creation of a delivery configuration, also known at Akamai as a property, you'll add rules and behaviors to help speed up your site and secure it even more.
The workflow
Onboarding follows a phased approach. You can complete each phase using either Akamai Control Center or an application programming interface (API).
Get access. Add a group, roles, and users to your contract to get access to the tools and products you'll need to set up delivery.
Get your certificate. For requests between a client and the Akamai network, you'll first need to set up a certificate to secure that connection.
Ready your origin server. Use Akamai's NetStorage to store and manage your content for delivery.
Define your property. Create and apply an edge hostname to redirect requests to the Akamai edge network, set NetStorage as your origin, and configure how you want to deliver your content with rules and behaviors.
Test and go live. We recommend that you test your property and then you can push it to production to start delivering your site through the Akamai network. |
