Origin

Set Origin Template

Required

The origin server is the physical or cloud location where your source content resides. This behavior is obligatory to ensure Akamai knows where to retrieve your assets from.

While the default origin settings define your primary origin, you can add additional Origin Server behaviors to custom rule sets to override these preset values. This is useful for:

  • Localized content. Redirecting users to a different origin based on language.
  • Failover. Routing traffic to a backup server.
  • Special handling. Managing authorization requests or redirects for specific user agents.

How to configure this behavior

Setup requirements vary depending on your infrastructure. Choose the tutorial that matches your environment to ensure all prerequisites are met:

  • Your origin. Select this if you maintain your own physical or virtual servers to host your site or application, or if you use a cloud provider such as Amazon Web Services (S3), Google Cloud Storage, or Azure to serve your content.
  • Akamai Object Storage. You can use Akamai Object Storage as the origin server, and Cloud Access Manager (CAM) for authentication. In this case, you can create an access key using the CAM interface or the API.
