Dashboard metrics reference

Metrics and analysis data gathered in the Script Management Dashboard let you see which scripts referenced on your site are causing the largest impacts to performance.

Use this reference to better understand the information in the tables in the Script Management Dashboard and Edit policy pages. Knowledge of these concepts can:

  • Help you navigate the script tables
  • Interpret the metrics accurately
  • Make informed decisions about how to configure your Script Management policy.

MetricDescription
Analysis An estimate of a script's possible impact according to Script Management’s algorithms. Red icons indicate scripts that slow page loading significantly. Yellow icons indicate scripts that have less impact. Scripts with green icons are of least concern.
Available scripts The script information tables include all scripts that have sufficient beacon data in the current data collection time period. Because beacons depend on user requests, the tables do not include scripts that have no traffic. The table also includes any scripts set to Defer or Block. If you previously set a script to one of these values and then traffic to that script stopped, the script persists in the table and shows no metrics. Also, the tables display a maximum of 500 scripts, with preference given to scripts with higher popularity and to scripts set to Defer or Block.
Beacon data The source of the data that feeds Script Management analysis. Each beacon is a bundle of real-time measurements specific to one specific user's visit to your site. Script Management refreshes metrics and analysis periodically based on the latest collected data. Refer to the mPulse documentation for more details about how data collection works.
Block A policy configuration option that prevents the script from loading entirely. Blocking happens as soon as the service worker encounters the request for the script. Check for dependencies: Blocking one script that another script calls causes that script to fail. You cannot block a script unless you install Script Management in action mode.
Cached A possible value for transfer size and transfer time. Cached is displayed when the measured values are zero, indicating that the script is cached in users' browsers for requests detected in the current collection time period.
Category For third-party scripts, the type of functionality that this script or group provides. For example, Analytics, Advertising, or Security. For first-party scripts, the category is the domain where the script or group resides.
Defer A policy configuration option that defers loading and executing the script until after the page load event. Deferring scripts does not change their order relative to each other. You cannot defer a script unless you install Script Management in action mode.
Group For third-party scripts, a set of scripts with shared functionality. Typically, the scripts in a group are part of the same application. For first-party scripts, the group is the hostname where the scripts reside. Select the Groups view option to browse scripts by group (on the Dashboard) or to apply a single action to all scripts in a group (on the Edit policy page).
Group IDAll of the components you create and manage through your Akamai account are collected in a group. You'll have at least one group. For example, the Ion property for your site or app where you enabled Script Management is maintained in a group. The Group ID is the unique identifier that Akamai sets for this group.
Highlighted actions On the Edit policy page, indicates an action that you changed since you last activated the policy. Activate to save changes. If you do not activate before leaving the page, your changes will be lost.
Locked A script with a fixed action that you can't change.
Party Whether the script or group resides are hosted on this policy's hostname (first party) or a different hostname (third party).
Popularity The percentage of beacons that included a reference to this script. The higher the value, the more of your users the script impacts.
Popularity (avg)The mean popularity value from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis.
Popularity (max) The maximum popularity value from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis.
Popularity (min) The minimum popularity value from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis.
Testing Suggestions Pages on your site that reference the selected script. This is not a complete list; it shows only the five pages with the most beacons referencing the script.
Transfer size The transfer size of the script resource. If the script is compressed for transfer, this reflects the compressed size, not the extracted size. The value is displayed in KBs if the number of bytes is greater than 1024. If the script size is less than 1024 bytes, it is shown in bytes. The value Cached indicates that the script is cached in the user's browser and so no transfer was required.
Transfer Size (avg) The mean transfer size from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Transfer Size (max) The maximum transfer size from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Transfer Size (min) The minimum transfer size from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Transfer time The average time (in ms) it took for the script to transfer once requested. The value Cached indicates that the script is cached in the user's browser and so no transfer was required.
Transfer Time (avg) The mean transfer time from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Transfer Time (max) The maximum transfer time from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Transfer Time (min) The minimum transfer time from previous insights within a one month period, including the current analysis. A value of zero means that the script is cached in the user's browser.
Unknown A possible value for transfer size and transfer time. Unknown is displayed when no information is available.
Varied A possible value for an action in Group view. Varied indicates that not all scripts in the group are set to the same action.
