Create an edge hostname

You don't create edge hostnames in Edge Hostnames

You can only create edge hostnames in Property Manager.

To create an edge hostname, refer to the following procedures in the Property Manager documentation:

• Configure HTTPS hostnames
• Configure HTTP hostnames

Edit an edge hostname

This procedure helps you edit the TTL and IP version of your edge hostname.

1. From the Control Center menu, click Content delivery > CDN > Edge Hostnames.
   The Edge Hostnames tab is displayed.

2. Click the More () menu in the Action column next to the edge hostname you want to edit and select Edit Edge Hostname.

3. If required, edit the IP Version and add Comments (optional). Click Next.
   For IP Version, you can modify this value only if the hostname you're editing uses a product default map.

4. Select a Mapping Solution.

5. Optional: Select whether to Use China CDN.

6. Select a DNS TTL (Time to Live) option.
   For Use Custom TTL, you can set the custom TTL to a value of up to 86400 seconds, 1440 minutes, 24 hours, or 1 day.

7. Auto Assign the ARL serial number or Use Customer Serial. The custom serial number is an integer between 1 and 2047.

8. Click Next.

9. Click the tabs to review the changes and add Notification Emails (optional).

10. Click Submit.

Check the Change Requests tab on the home page to see a list of pending changes. If the edge hostname you edited isn't listed, it means the changes were applied.

View edge hostname details

This procedure helps you check the edge hostname's general and advanced settings, including certificate information, linked and associated properties, and the edit history.

1. From the Control Center menu, click Content delivery > CDN > Edge Hostnames.
   The Edge Hostnames tab is displayed.
2. Click the More () menu in the Action column next to the edge hostname you want to get the details of and select View Edge Hostname Details.

Edge hostname and property association

If you need to remove the link or association between the edge hostname and a property, click the property name in the Properties tab. Select the property version and remove the association in Property Manager.

You can view the fields described in the following sections (some of the fields are optional, for example, Comments).

General info

• Name. The edge hostname you establish using the ​​Akamai Technologies, Inc.​​ content delivery network (CDN) to map requests for your content to ​​Akamai Technologies, Inc.​​ edge servers.
• Product. The ​Akamai​ product you assigned your edge hostname to.
• IP version. The IP version based on what your application or site can support.

Advanced settings

• DNS TTL. The Time to Live parameter in a DNS record specifying duration for which a DNS resolver caches the information before it expires and needs to be refreshed.
• Serial or Custom Target. The serial number is an automatically assigned integer between 1 and 2047 unless you chose to define the custom serial.

Properties

• **Property name.**The name of your property.
• Version on a network. The version(s) activated on a network, either Staging or Production.
• **Hostnames.**The hostname (at least one) assigned to the specific property.

Edit history

• Date. The time and date when the change was made.
• User. The user who made the change.
• Change. The type of a change made on the edge hostname (for example, create, edit).

You can also compare two changes by selecting them and clicking Compare two changes button.

Delete an edge hostname

This procedure deletes an edge hostname that is no longer used.

You can delete only those edge hostnames that aren't linked or associated to a property. To learn how to check it, see View edge hostname details.

1. From the Control Center menu, click Content delivery > CDN > Edge Hostnames.
2. Click the More () menu in the Action column next to the edge hostname you want to delete and select Delete Edge Hostname.
3. In the Delete Edge Hostname window:
   1. Optional: Enter a comment to explain why you are deleting the edge hostname and email addresses of the people you want to notify about the deletion.
   2. Optional: Select Force the delete option.

      🚧

      Force the delete deletes an active CNAME

      For safety reasons, you can't delete a CNAME that is live in DNS. However, the Force the delete option skips the safety check and allows you to delete the CNAME even if the CNAME has been deployed to production environment.

   3. Select the checkbox to confirm you want to delete the edge hostname.
   4. Click Delete.

Once you delete the edge hostname, the specified recipients receive an email notification with the action details.
