Jul 01, 2024 — Edge DNS updates

This release includes these Edge DNS updates:

  • DNS security analytics. You can enable and configure the detection of NXDOMAIN spikes and CNAME danglers in your zones to report on these threats. The new Security Analytics reports give you record level query metrics. These reports also correlate DNS traffic data across these delivery and security products: Prolexic, App and API Protector, Edge Hostnames, and Akamai DNS. This feature is now generally available.
  • Shield NS53. Shield NS53 is a caching DNS proxy that protects your origin infrastructure, such as an authoritative DNS name server from DNS resource exhaustion attacks. You can use the user interface in Control Center or the Shield NS53 operations in the Edge DNS API to configure a policy for allowed traffic in specific zones, specify IP addresses of your origin name servers, and define a health check for your name servers. Each shield configuration has service IP address assignments for delegations. This self-service product is now generally available. To learn more about Shield NS53, see Overview of Shield NS53.
  • AKAMAITLC self-service. You can now create and edit AKAMAITLC records as a way to enable aliasing at the apex of a domain.
  • Zone protection and takedown improvements. You can monitor your zones for takedown threats and malicious domains. This update includes a new Zone Dashboard that provides a high-level view of threats based on risk level and priority, malicious domains for takedowns, status of takedowns, and more. From the dashboard, you can navigate to separate pages that provide more information on malicious domains. You can also go to a page where you enable zone protection.
