Mar 31, 2026 — Identity and Access in Akamai Cloud is generally available

We are happy to announce that Identity and Access in Akamai Cloud is now generally available.

Identity and Access in Akamai Cloud is used to manage user identities within an account and manage operations that those identities may perform. Identity and Access uses the role-based access control (RBAC) model to authorize operations on entities.

To learn more, see the UI documentation or the following API endpoints:

Before running these operations, read Comparison of Linode API for grants and Identity and Access.

Prerequisites

Before you start using Identity and Access in Akamai Cloud, note the changes in user experience for firewalls. Modifying Firewall settings, for example Update default firewalls requires you to have the RBAC roles with list_default_firewalls or update_default_firewalls permissions assigned.

LISH via SSH deprecation

Accounts using the new Identity and Access service are no longer able to use LISH via SSH. Out of Band Console Access is limited to the web-based LISH console only. If you’re using LISH via SSH, you should migrate to the web-based LISH console. This will ensure your team has a consistent and secure method for accessing your Linodes and will prepare you for the full deprecation of LISH via SSH.
