Enterprise Application Access (EAA) updates

Akamai EAA new features

AAGs for Cliented Applications and Clientless Applications (Beta). You can use different types of Application Access Groups (AAG) based on the type of applications that need to be grouped together.

  • Clientless-Access Application. You can have Web (HTTPs), RDP, and SSH Applications in this AAG.
  • Client-Access Application with Cloud Zone Hybrid Transport. You can have TCP-type or Tunnel-Type Client-Access Applications or Tunnel-Type Client-Access Applications using Hybrid mode in this AAG.
  • Client-Access Application with Edge Transport. You can have a Tunnel-type Client-Access Application using Edge Transport in this AAG.

If you have AAGs that have both Clientless Applications and Cliented Applications, you can migrate them yourself or contact Akamai Support to migrate them to the above types of AAGs.

AAG creation wizard. (Beta)You can use a wizard for creating Application Access Groups easing the process of associating Connector Pools, Identity Ruleset, Access Ruleset, and Applications to it.

Custom Applications Page URL. After users authenticate with the IdP login portal, using the Post login redirect setting, they can be redirected to a URL that points to a custom Applications page that shows all of the applications secured by EAA.

Support for Brotli encoding in Web Applications. EAA supports web applications that use Brotli encoding, providing better performance since the compression will be faster and more efficient than other traditional compression techniques. You can set Enable Brotli Encoding in the Advanced settings, Miscellaneous section of your web application settings page. You must contact Akamai Support to enable this feature.

Disable User Agent check for web applications. In the Advanced Settings, Authentication section of a Web application settings page, we have added a Disable user agent check option. When disabled, EAA skips the user-agent check that ensures that the application session cookie is sent from the same browser. You must use it only if the session cookie must be shared with a non-browser application or if the browser changes user-agent strings. This reduces application session security and increases the risk of application session hijacking. You must contact Akamai Support to enable this feature.

Monitoring of Cloud Zone Health Status. You can check the health status of your different Cloud Zones on EAA Dashboard and know which applications are associated with each of the cloud zones. You must contact Akamai Support to enable this feature.

We're excited to announce that Edge Transport has advanced to Limited Availability, bringing enhanced performance optimization directly to your application access experience.

What is Edge Transport?
Edge Transport is designed to deliver fast, responsive end-user experiences by embedding intelligent performance optimization directly into your application path for your Edge Transport based Tunnel applications. This breakthrough capability ensures reliable, stable performance for remote application access, no matter where your users or applications are located.

Key Benefits
Consistent Performance Everywhere

  • Reliable application access regardless of user or application location
  • Optimized performance even in challenging network conditions
  • Enhanced file transfer capabilities, including SMB (server message block) protocol support

Built for Real-World Conditions

  • Maintains performance stability in environments with degraded internet connectivity

  • Automatically adapts to varying network conditions

  • Reduces latency and improves responsiveness for remote user

What This Means for You

With Edge Transport in Limited Availability, you can now experience:

  • Faster Application Response Times - Reduced latency for better user productivity
  • Improved Remote Work Experience - Consistent performance for distributed teams
  • Enhanced File Transfer Performance - Optimized SMB protocol handling for seamless file operations
  • Network Resilience - Maintained performance even when connectivity is less than ideal

Getting Started

Edge Transport is now available to qualifying customers as part of our Limited Availability program. Contact your account team to learn more about accessing this capability and how it can improve your organization's remote application performance.

Limited Availability features are made available to select customers for evaluation and feedback. Feature availability may be subject to certain requirements and conditions.

Improvements for Edge Transport based Tunnel Applications. When you make any updates to the DNS Resolvers Settings page and save the changes, an automatic deployment is triggered.

Known limitations

  • Unified docker connectors cannot be upgraded in place by Akamai. To receive the latest updates, you must deploy a new connector using the latest release build. These connectors are marked with beta pill:

  • If you have an AAG with Applications and Connector Pool of Docker type with Unified Docker Connectors inside it, and you add a new connector to the connector pool using the icon Add New Connector to the Connector Pool

add new connector inside CP icon

then the new connector will not serve traffic to the applications in the AAG. It has to be moved to another connector pool and then moved back to this connector pool.
