Jul 13th, 2026 – Introducing custom rule sets and variables

Major New Features

Custom rule sets

We are introducing support for custom rule sets—isolated configuration blocks operating within the boundary of a single environment. The primary goals of custom rule sets are team delegation and decentralized engineering workflows. With access permissions scoped to specific feature teams, developers gain autonomy to deploy, test, and discard complex complex logic in their own environments on-demand, without risking any accidental changes to parallel configurations.

Variables

We have launched comprehensive support for variables—named containers for values that live outside your configuration. By replacing hardcoded parameters with variables, you decouple code from environments. This creates a "build once, deploy anywhere" workflow where the same rule set can move from development to production without any changes.

Other Capabilities and Enhancements

  • Enabled environment deletion capabilities for authorized users.
  • Updated Ion product template to support auto-generated CP codes.
  • Added support for Origin Characteristics behavior in the application and API.
  • Enforced a new maximum limit of 10 service hostname sets routed for an individual environment.
  • Added support for canceling an activation in the validation phase, with other enhancements to the activation pipeline with real-time UI progress bars and improved validation results.
