Mar 20, 2024 — Akamai Zero Trust Client 5.3.0 General Availability Release

Akamai Zero Trust Client 5.3.0 is now generally available. You can go to Akamai Control Center > Enterprise Center > Client & Connectors > Akamai Zero Trust Client to deploy the upgrade.
To learn more about the Akamai Zero Trust Client rollout process, refer to the rollout documentation.

New features and improvements

  • Proxy Auto-Configuration (PAC) support. A new silent install parameter lets you set up the client to honor your PAC file settings and route Access traffic via a proxy server.
  • Disable client startup with OS. A new silent install parameter lets you prevent the client from launching on OS startup.
  • Zero Trust Client is now available in Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Ability to coexist with VPNs and other network interfaces on Windows. In the Local Bypass Settings, you can specify the network interfaces that you don’t want directed to the Zero Trust Client when Threat Protection is enabled for transparent traffic interception on Windows. A network interface can be a VPN. You specify the hardware IDs that are associated with a network interface.
  • CSV with client inventory. You can now download a CSV from the list of Zero Trust Clients in Enterprise Center (Clients & Connectors > Akamai Zero Trust Clients). The CSV contains the hostname of the client, status of service, client version, username, platform of client, and more.
  • Automatically install the Secure Internet Access (SIA) Proxy certificate on Windows. In the Threat Protection service settings of Enterprise Center (Client & Connectors > Manage and Download Clients), you can now enable the Install proxy certificate on device setting to automatically install the proxy certificate on a Windows device. The certificate is installed in the Windows certificate store.
If this setting is enabled and SIA administrators generate or upload a new proxy certificate, administrators must confirm whether they want to install the new certificate on the device.

Known issues

Due to client dependencies changes in version 5.3.0, additional caveats apply when downgrading from Zero Trust Client 5.3.0 to any older version of the client on macOS. To downgrade manually or via OTA, follow one of the three methods outlined below:

  • Method 1. Uninstall the client manually and install an older version of your choice.
  • Method 2. Stop the watchdog service by running the following commands in the macOS Terminal before downgrading:
sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.akamai.aztwatchdog.plist
rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.akamai.aztwatchdog.plist
  • Method 3. Contact Akamai support and ask for assistance with the downgrade procedure.
