# Edge hostname

akamai_edge_hostname

<div class="aligned">

<div><p></p></div>

Create, update, or delete an edge hostname. You can update only the TTL and IP version. To remove an edge hostname, run `terraform destroy`.

Akamai supports three types of edge hostnames. Each type supports a different level of security.

| Edge hostname type | Domain suffix | Example |
| ------------------ | ------------- | :-------------------------- |
| Standard TLS       | edgesuite.net | `example.com.edgesuite.net` |
| Enhanced TLS       | edgekey.net   | `example.com.edgekey.net`   |
| Shared Cert        | akamaized.net | `example.akamaized.net`     |

When creating an edge hostname, the *domain prefix* must meet these requirements:

* For the `akamaized.net` suffix: Keep the domain prefix 4–63 characters long. Start and end it with a letter or digit, and include only letters, digits, and hyphens. For example, `abcdef`, `ab123`, `ab123-4c5d`, `1ab2-cd3`.
* For any other suffix: Keep the domain prefix 1–63 characters long. Start it with a letter or digit, end it with a letter, digit, or dot, and include only letters, digits, dots, and hyphens. For example, `abc-def`, `123.456.`, `1abc.23-def`.
* For the `akamaized.net` and other suffixes: The domain prefix can't begin or end with a hyphen.

> 📘

> The domain prefix rules do not impact existing edge hostnames.

## Attributes

If you've not set an `output` method, the response only provides an edge hostname ID in the success message.

Setting an `output` method returns the edge hostname details you provided on create along with the computed edge hostname ID.
