# Get started

To use this API for the first time:

1. Make sure that Mutual TLS Edge Truststore is in your contract. You can find the list of products within your account in ​Akamai​ ​Control Center​ under Contracts. Contact your ​Akamai​ support team to enable Mutual TLS Edge Truststore if necessary.
2. You need different permissions to access API functions. You can manage these permissions in ​Control Center​. Learn more about the [access control model](https://techdocs.akamai.com/iam/docs/about-access-control-model).
3. Before you can use this API, you need to [create authentication credentials](https://techdocs.akamai.com/developer/docs/set-up-authentication-credentials).
4. To enable this API, select the API service named `mtls-edge-truststore-api`, and choose `READ-WRITE` as the access level.
