Nov 18, 2025 — MSL Portal and Origin features and optimizations
1 day ago
This update introduces a suite of new features aimed at enhancing content delivery, improving efficiency, and streamlining operations. It also includes important bug fixes to improve stability and address known issues, ensuring a more robust and reliable experience across the MSL5 platform.
MSL Portal Updates
- Metrics Dashboard Enhancement: The metrics dashboard now includes backup stream data in addition to primary streams. This provides complete operational visibility when backup ingest is available and lets you view comprehensive metric reports for both primary and backup streams.
- Metrics Filter Enhancement: The Stream ID is now the primary and mandatory filter on the metrics dashboard. Contract ID and CP Tags now serve only as helper filters to assist in finding the correct Stream ID and do not affect the actual query payload. This prevents automatic clearing of selected streams when Contract/CP Tag helpers change.
- Time Range Limitation: Shortened the Metrics and Audit Log time range selection to a maximum of 31 days
from current time. Time range selection exceeding this limit will display the message “Date range cannot exceed
31 days”. - Monitoring & Metrics: Fixed an issue where the Web Portal Ingestion Trends Chart did not accurately display 400 ingest errors.
MSL Origin Updates
- Playback & Content Management
- Origin-Assist Prefetching: Added support for origin-assist prefetching for Live2VOD and Instant TV content, significantly improving Akamai AMD cache efficiency and content delivery performance.
- HLS Content Purge Enhancements: Enhanced Content Purge functionality to automatically update HLS
variant playlists by removing segments and inserting discontinuity tags when purging content within a
specified time range, ensuring cleaner content manifests. - DASH SegmentTimeline Support: Implemented comprehensive support for DASH MPD with SegmentTimeline template for ingest and playback across Live, Live2VOD and Instant TV content. This includes support for both $Time and $Number representations, increasing compatibility and flexibility.
- Low-Latency DASH Ingest: Implemented support for Low-Latency DASH (LL-DASH) using chunked transfer encoding for both ingest and egress, ensuring faster segment availability and reduced latency during content uploads and delivery.
- Content Playback: Resolved an issue causing a playback gap at the end of the first period for DASH Instant TV generated from multi-period streams with SegmentTimeline , ensuring smooth and uninterrupted content playback.
- Content Management: Fixed an issue where creating Past Events from a source with multiple master playlists in the same folder could cause the playlists to become identical, potentially leading to incorrect content serving. This ensures proper content differentiation and serving.
- Segment Response: Fixed an issue with Origin-Assist Prefetching where segment responses for non-live (ended) streams using absolute URLs in manifests and segments were not returning details of the next segment.
- System & Infrastructure
- Live Stream Cluster Migration: Enabled seamless migration of running MSL5 Origin live streams between clusters. This facilitates efficient rebalancing without any service interruption to live broadcasts.
