# Set up authentication

If you haven't already, you need to [create your authentication credentials](https://techdocs.akamai.com/developer/docs/set-up-authentication-credentials) in an API client in Control Center. Set up the API client with:

* Access to the Media Streaming API.
* Media Streaming API access level set to READ-WRITE.

Then, you can include this code to apply the token values to validate your requests.

# Pick a location and CP code

Optionally run the [List streams](https://techdocs.akamai.com/msl/reference/get-streams-1) operation to get the relevant `location` and `cpcode` values, then store the `location` value for the `encoderLocation` URL parameter.

Optionally, specify the `encoderLocation` and `cpcode` values in the request URL template string.

The response object returns a list of live origins with details.

If you need to run the [Get an origin](https://techdocs.akamai.com/msl/reference/get-origin-1) or [Remove an origin](https://techdocs.akamai.com/msl/reference/delete-origin-1) operations, store the origin's `id` value and assign it to the `originId` member.
