Media Analytics lets you define your own dimensions based on data present in URLs. You can use them for data residing in request and referrer URLs.

What's supported?

The points that follow discuss how you can implement custom dimensions:

• Based on the URL string. Create a dimension based on the presence of one or more text strings in the request URL and specify a value for it. Media Analytics assigns this value to the encountered text string.

• Based on URL string extraction. Provide the text prefix and suffix of the value to be extracted from a URL string. If the prefix or suffix isn't constant, you can specify a regular expression rule. Leave the suffix field blank if you want to extract the value to the end of the URL string.

• Based on the key-value pair in the URL. Specify the key or name of the key-value pair to use for the dimension. When processing a data source, Media Analytics looks for this key, extracts and stores each encountered Value. These values are displayed as dimension values in relevant reports.

• Based on key-value pairs in the referrer. Specify a key or name of the key-value pair in the referrer URL to use for the dimension.

• Based on the Referrer string. Specify one or more text strings in the request referrer, and the value that should be assigned by Media Analytics when the string is encountered. A referrer dimension can include one or more Value-Criteria sets.

• Based on the URL component. Specify the component in the URL to use for the dimension. Here is the format of the components in a URL:protocol://username:password@hostname:port/directory1/directory2/directory3/filename.extension?
