Start provisioning

Before you begin

Before you can provision your property hostname, you must set up an ICP holding entity and register a license with the Chinese government. You then add the ICP holding entity, license, and property hostname to China CDN Manager. For more information on adding the holding entity, license, and property hostname, see Add or edit an ICP holding entity, Add or edit an ICP number and Add or edit a property hostname.

Next, you can start provisioning your hostname.

How to

  1. Select the Property hostnames tab at the top of the screen.

  2. Select the property hostname you want to start provisioning.

The Show only hostnames ready for mapping in China checkbox appears checked by default, and only those hostnames ready for mapping appear in this field. If you know that you want to only add a property hostname to the allowlist, you can deselect the checkbox.

  3. Click Start provisioning.

The Provisioning request dialog box appears. There are two steps in the provisioning process. First, you must add your property hostname to the allowlist, which enables traffic in China. After you allow the hostname, you map your edge hostname to your property hostname, to optimize performance of your web site or application in China.

    📘

Mapping a property hostname to a shared edge hostname

This assigns a deprovision policy to the property hostname. You can click Edit to change the deprovision policy of that shared edge hostname.
See Deprovision policies for shared edge hostnames for more information on deprovision policy options.

  4. Click Whitelist if you only want to add your property hostname to the allowlist. Click Provision if you want to allow and map your property hostname.

Provision only appears enabled when the edge hostname you selected is ready for mapping in China.

When the mapping portion is complete, you receive a notification.

China delivery: new *88.net operational domains

For delivery in China, Akamai recommends that you map the CNAME of your property hostname to the new *88.net Chinese operational domain that corresponds to your original edge hostname selection. For example, with an:

  • example.com.edgesuite.net edge hostname, change the CNAME to example.com.edgesuite88.net,
  • example.com.edgekey.net edge hostname, change the CNAME to example.com.edgekey88.net.
